COST OF LAWYER'S SERVICES IN UKRAINE (KYIV).
The price of the service is a mandatory condition of the contract for the provision of legal services. It is also natural that the client when choosing a service provider pays special attention to the compatibility of the cost of services with those tasks that will be set for achievement. The services of a lawyer, the prices for which seem disproportionate or inflated (or, conversely, too low), are not always the case. The client should be aware that when forming the cost of services, the lawyers may proceed from different approaches to pricing. For example, at a higher cost of services, a lawyer goes by forecasting the full range of services that will be provided based on the order. At a low cost, the lawyer names the base price, to which additional services will be offered and added in the future.
Price list for legal services, types of payment, what should the client consider?
Like any client-oriented contractor, the lawyer makes every effort to make them understandable and user-friendly when choosing payment methods and determining their rates. In the legal market of Ukraine, depending on the type of service and the client’s wishes, the following types of payment for the services of a lawyer have been formed:
fixed cost of legal services
In this form of relationship, in the contract for the provision of services the parties shall define a clear task or a combination of them, and the lawyer in turn indicates their exact value, and their price does not change in the future. There are a small number of such legal services with a determined cost. These include oral and written advice, preparation of simple procedural documents, participation in a court hearing, drafting and analysis of a standard contract.
In some cases, the cost of consultation may be included in the cost of other higher-priced services that the client needed after the consultation.
Payment at a fixed cost is subject to full or partial advance payment.
hourly rate payment
This type of payment has recently become popular among the lawyers, as it allows to determine pricing in cases where it is unclear in advance what services will be provided or unclear how much time will be spent. Such services include, in particular, support of hard cases, participation in negotiations, support of complex processes for obtaining approval documents or licenses, support of real estateconstruction. In some cases, there is a combination of fixed and hourly rate payment, for example, when a lawyer can use experience to predict how much time will be spent for implementation of any task. In other words, the lawyer predicts the total amount of time that will be spent on participating in the case or project with the introduction of a mandatory condition in the contract, that the parties agree on the cost of time based on the achievement of intermediate results.

From the client’s point of view, the most popular type of payment is when payment is made only if the goals set for a lawyer or attorney are achieved, such as obtaining an approval document, terminating the contract, obtaining a final court judgment, and so on. It is most often used in hard cases upon achievement of the full, maximum result, as well as in time-bound cases.
In any case, each order and its execution have certain unique features. Therefore, the client and lawyer determine the price of a lawyer’s services (form and type of payment for them) based on the specifics of the task to be performed.
